400 Series Green Machines FAQ |
 |
| What is the Green Machine used for? |
| The Applied Green Machine is a compact suction sweeper
used throughout the world for cleaning outdoor shopping malls, pedestrian
streets, sidewalks and other high litter pedestrian areas. Originally
a walk-behind machine, newer versions of the Green Machine allow the
operator to ride, but all versions are compact and quiet enough to operate
safely and efficiently in areas of high pedestrian traffic. |
Times Square |
| How long has the Green Machine been
on the market? |
| Applied Sweepers has 35 years
experience manufacturing only the Green Machine family. We believe we
have developed an unparalleled level of product application knowledge,
and have evolved the best small outdoor sweeper in the world. There
have been over 10,000 Green Machines sold worldwide. |

|
| How does the Green
Machine work? |
| Contra-rotating brushes in front
of the Green Machine sweep litter into the central suction nozzle where
it is sucked up through an impeller fan, which pulverises it before
depositing it into a regular disposable trash sack. This machine combines
the thorough scrubbing action of a sweeper with the vacuum's ability
to deal with uneven outdoor surfaces that traditional sweeper-only machines
struggle with. |
Leaf Sweeping |
| How loud is the
machine? |
| At only 68 decibels, it whispers
past the strictest noise pollution standards and allows you to work
alongside the public all day long. |
Quiet Zone |
| Who are some of
the customers currently using Green Machines? |
| Green Machines are used in 45
countries around the world and can be seen operating in some of the
world's most prestigious locations such as: Buckingham Palace London,
St. Peter's Square Rome, Singapore, Disney World and Times Square New
York. You can browse our success stories for more examples. |
Buckingham Palace |
| What level of maintenance
is required and who provides parts, technical support etc for the machines? |
| Preventative maintenance including
engine oil change and lubrication needs to be carried out every 150
- 200 operating hours (equivalent to every 6,000 miles in an automobile).
You can do this straightforward process yourself in about 2 hours, or
this can be done by your local Authorised Dealer. Parts support can
be sourced from your local Dealer or by ordering on-line.(see demo)

| How is the litter
compacted? |
| By an impeller fan made of hardened
steel which reduces the litter at a 3:1 ratio. Even glass - such as beer bottles - is safely
pulverized into a sand-like substance thus eliminating your safety concerns.

Bud in hand |
| What type of engine
does the Green Machine use? |
| 14 horsepower Kubota liquid-cooled,
diesel engine. The most rugged and durable small engine on the market,
it passes the toughest California emissions standards, and is unbelievably
quiet. |
Tough Power |
| How long do the
front brushes last? |
| Between 100 - 300 hours depending
on whether you specify regular polypropylene or the harder P.E.T. type
brush. It also depends on the type of surface swept. Brush changes require
no tools, take only moments, and the brushes are relatively inexpensive.

Grime Seekers |
| Can the Green Machine
pick up sidewalk soiling and gum? |
| The optional Clean-and-Safe attachment
for the Green Machine easily sucks up and sanitizes sidewalk soil such
as dog mess and discarded fast foods. The separate low pressure vacuum
system ensures that the collected detritus does not touch any moving
parts of the machine and the deposits are transferred into a plastic
diaper sack housed in a stainless steel container for safe and easy
disposal. The vacuum wand sprays liquid disinfectant to sanitize the
process as the deposits are collected.
At present the Green Machine cannot pick-up
gum. There are some machines on the market that blast gum off using
high temperature steam or pressure washing. However the practice is
extremely labor intensive and hence expensive, and the results can be
light-colored spots on your surface where the gum has been removed,
in place of the black spots of the original gum. Pressure is mounting
in several countries to enact legislation to force gum manufacturers
to move to a less troublesome formula. |
Dog Mess Fix |
| How long does it
take to clean a machine at the end of each shift? |
| Our new bag washing system allows
an operator to complete his end of shift washdown in 7-10 minutes using
an ordinary garden hose. |
Fast Clean |
| Does the Green Machine
recycle? |
| Yes! You can specify the optional
recycling back box for the Applied 424HS 'Hi-Speed' and TR models. This
box has separate loading ports for plastic bottles and cans and these
items are gathered in individual plastic trash sacks ready for later
discharge into larger recycling units. |
Environment First |
| What type of bag
does the collected litter go into? |
| A standard 30 gallon plastic
trash bag which gives you an inexpensive collection system and eliminates
the wasted transport time associated with hopper collection systems.
You can also specify large capacity leaf collection bags for autumn/fall. |
Bagged it? Trash it |
| Does the Green Machine
come in an LP Gas/Propane version so I can use it indoors? |
| In certain markets (at present
only in the United Kingdom and France) an L.P. version is available.
If your space is well ventilated and voluminous you can still use the
low emission diesel-powered regular Green Machine if you take precautions
to ensure you remain within local occupational health limits (e.g. O.S.H.A.
in the United States). |
Power in a Bottle |
| Can I get the machine
in any colour? |
| Yes. The machine comes in any
color you specify. The color is molded-in gel-coat and is not painted
on - preventing chipping and flaking. You can also specify the
machine to play a customized audio message to further increase the Public
Relations profile of your machine . For example, the Green Machines
cleaning in Times Square, New York have an audio message recorded by
actor Tony Randall. |
